WHAT IS THE PANTHERS
ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB?
The Burlingame High School Athletic Boosters is an organization of parents, families and alumni working with the Athletic Department, Coaches and Administration to support all athletic programs at BHS.
The 2012-2013 athletic year promises to be exciting for all of our athletes. Numerous athletes are participating in camps and clinics, reaching throughout the U.S., to become BFS (bigger, faster, stronger) in their specific field. This past spring, the San Mateo Unified High School District Board was given a budget proposal, increasing funding for athletics at all seven high schools. At the time of this letter, the funding had not been approved, but we are hopeful of the outcome. However, as wonderful as this news is, the additional funding, from the District, does not put us, the Boosters, “out of business”! It allows us the opportunity to follow the creed of BFS – Bigger, Faster, Stronger adding an additional B for BETTER! BFSB at BHS. Our collective objective (question) should (always) be twofold;
1) How can we, parents, community, alumni help in making BHS Athletics Better; and,
2) What expertise, do we (individually) have, that can make this happen.
Both objectives are easily met by each and every one of us. We make BHS Athletics BETTER by becoming members of the Boosters, completing membership forms and returning them to your team liaison (or coach), attending home and away games, supporting all athletes, and, of course, donating your time, money, and expertise (not sure what your expertise is, contact us, we will help you figure it out). In summation, be present in your athlete’s life.
Following the BETTER theme, this year, members of the current board are putting together a panel with representatives from Division I, Division II, NAIA, and junior colleges for a presentation on college athletics. The discussion will focus on the various opportunities for college athletes, recruitment, and what it’s like to be a college athlete. This will, hopefully, be an annual event to help students and their families understand the ins and outs of how the athletic recruitment process works and what opportunities there are for college athletes. We are planning a date for October so stay tuned. In keeping with our objective, if any of you know of a college coach or athletic director who would be interested in participating in the panel, please contact Bradley Matteoni or Todd Bakar through our booster website.
Finally, we encourage each of you to attend our monthly meetings, held the
2nd Tuesday of each month, beginning August 14, 2012.
